Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between students’ motivation in reading and their reading comprehension at the second grade of State Senior High School 1 Kateman. From 128 students of the population which consisted of 4 classes, the researcher took 64 second grade students of State Senior High School 1 Kateman as the sample by using purposive sampling. The instruments of this research were test and questionnaire. The test was about narrative text in which there were 20 items by using multiple-choice. The questionnaire consisted of 28 items. Descriptive analysis was used to know students’ motivation in reading and their comprehension whereas Pearson Product Moment Correlation Technique was used in order to measure the correlation between the two variables which quantified the strength as well as direction of the correlation. Based on the results, it was found that the students’ motivation in reading was 58.67% while their reading comprehension was 69.21. In terms of the relationship between motivation in reading and reading comprehension, the researcher found that the sig.=0.000<a(0.05) Based on the research findings, it could be concluded that there is a significant correlation between students’motivation in reading and their reading comprehension.
