Abstract

This research was correlational research. It was aimed to find out the correlation between students’ reading interest and reading comprehension. There were two variables used in this research, which were X variable (students’ reading interest ) and Y (students’ reading comprehension). The subject of this research was the eleventh grade students at SMAN 2 Bangkinang whereas the object of this research was the correlation between reading interest and reading comprehension. The population of this research was 322 students. The researcher took 10% as sample, therefore, total sample are 33 students. In order to choose the sample, the researcher used simple random sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher used questionnaire for reading interest and test for reading comprehension. From the data analysis which had been done by using SPSS 17.0 version, it could be shown by the explanation: 1) the score of correlation coefficient is 0.664 > 0.3440 in significant level of 5% and 0.2913 in significant level of 1% (see the table of product moment ), it means that Ha was accepted which indicated that there is a significant correlation between students’ reading interest and reading comprehension. 2) The probability of score sig. (2-tailed)is 0.000<0.05. It means that Ha was accepted. In other words, there is a significant correlation between reading interest and reading comprehension.
