Abstract

This research was conducted based on some problems in learning English especially in terms of reading comprehension in analytical exposition text. The objectives of the research were to find out if there was a significant effect on students’ reading comprehension of analytical exposition text taught by using Plus Minus Interesting Strategy and taught without using Plus Minus Interesting Strategy at Islamic Senior High School Hasanah Pekanbaru. The design of this research was Quasi-Experimental Research. The population of this research was the second year students at Islamic Senior High School Hasanah Pekanbaru. The total number of population was 39 students. The writer used total sampling by selecting two classes as a sample. XI A consisted of 22 students as experimental class and XI B consisted of 17 students as control class, thus the number of the sample from two classes was 39 students. The instrument of this research was the test which were consisted of pre-test and post-test. The test was about students reading comprehension in analytical exposition text in which there were 20 items by using multiple-choice questions. In analyzing the data, the writer used independent sample t-test which was calculated by using software SPSS 22 version. In order to find out whether or not there was significant effect of using the Plus Minus Interesting strategy on students’ reading comprehension in analytical exposition text, the researcher provided the effect size or (Eta squared). Based on the result, it was found that, the result of eta squared was 0.19 ≥ 0.14 that was categorized into large effect. It means, null hypothesis (Ho2 )is rejected while null hypothesis (Ha2 )is accepted. In conclusion, there was significant effect of using Plus Minus Interesting Strategy at Islamic Senior High School Hasanah Pekanbaru.
