Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the reading materials in the text books used for senior high school students called ‘Bahasa Inggris for Eleventh Grade Students of Senior High School’. The data of the research were textbook contents, the approach and methods available on the English textbook. Documentary analysis was used as the technique of the data collection, while for the technique of the data analysis, descriptive analysis was applied to interpret the data. Criterion Referenced Evaluation was employed to find the percentages of how far the textbook develops the contents that suit the criteria of the 2013 curriculum Textbook and to know how far the textbook applies the approach and methods. The research findings revealed that in terms of the percentage of the data, 91.07 % of the textbook contents is in Very Good category, it implies that the English textbook follows the demand of the 2013 curriculum. Besides, in terms of the percentage of the approach and methods, as much as 43.75 % they are developed according to the English textbook of the 2013 curriculum which falls on Fairly Good category The approach and methods which are developed in the textbook are scientific approach, discovery learning, problem based learning, and project based learning.
