Abstract

This research was done by applying experimental research and the design used was factorial design 2x2.The aims of this research are(1) to find out whether there is any different efect of students’ speaking skill between anexperimental and Control Classes. (2) To find out the different levels of motivation (high and low) of two groupsbetween an experimental class and a controlclasson students’ speaking skill. (3) To find out whether there is any interaction between teaching strategies, and motivation on students’ skill in speaking.The research has been conducted during the period of November to December 2018. The samples were two classes of the tenth grade students of Science X1 and X2 of SMAN 12 Pekanbaru in the academic year of 2018/2019. The writer took the sample as cluster sampling. The total sample was 60 students. The forms of the test were speaking test and questionnaire. Finally,the result of the research was; first,There is significant score (sig.) 0.04 < 0.05 in independent sample test, it means there is the difference in speaking learning outcomes, between TPS (experimental group) and Retelling Techniques (control group).The second finding is thatthe analysis obtained tvalue = 11,798 while ttable = 1.57. The value of tcount (11.798) > ttable (1.57), so it can be concluded that there are differences in speaking skill between high and low motivation groups. There is significant score (sig.) 0.00 < 0.05,it means there is the difference in speaking skill between the students who have high motivation and low motivation. The third finding was, the score of Fobserved of interaction was 9.041 and Ftable at level of significance α < 0.05 was 0.000. Since Fobserved> F table,. It means that there is relative interaction between teaching technique and students’ motivation.These values are on the moderate effect.
