Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze students’ ability in writing explanation texts at the twelfth grade of Madrasah Aliyah Hasanah Pekanbaru. This study was a descriptive research. The subject of this research was the twelfth grade students of Madrasah Aliyah Hasanah Pekanbaru, while the object of this research was students’ ability in writing explanation texts. The research used total sampling technique to take the sample, there were 33students as sample. To collect the data, the researcher used test. The test was conducted to find students ability in writing explanation texts. Based on data analysis, the researcher found that the students were not able to use mechanics correctly, it was based on the percentage of students’ ability in writing explanation texts. The percentage of students’ ability in mechanics was 17,18%, vocabulary was 19,05%, grammar 19,26%, organization 20,81%, and content was 23,70%. From five components of writing, the researcher found that the students strong in the content and weak in mechanics. The result of the data analysis on students’ ability in writing explanation texts at Madrasah Aliyah Hasanah Pekanbaru was categorized into good level. Keywords: Ability, Writing, Explanation Texts.
