Abstract

This research is a correlational research design, which is aimed to find out the correlation between students’ interest in speaking and speaking achievement. There are two variables used in this research. They are variable X (Students’ Interest In Speaking) and variable Y (Speaking Achievement). The subject of this research is the eleventh grade students at State Senior High School 2 Bangkinang Kota whereas the object of this research is the correlation between students’ interest in speaking and speaking achievement. The population of this research is 150 students. To choose the sample, the researcher used purposive sampling technique and selected 30 students as the sample. In collecting the data, the researcher uses questionnaire for students’ speaking interest and oral test (storytelling) for speaking achievement. From the data analysis which had been done by using SPSS 23.0 version, it notices that there is a significant correlation between speaking interest and speaking achievement. It shows that the probability of score sig.t is 0.000, is smaller than the significant alpha of 0.05 (sig.t < 0.05). It means that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. In other words, there is a significant correlation between students’ interest in speaking and speaking achievement. Keywords: Relationship, Students’ Interest in Speaking, Speaking Achievement
