Abstract

This research was correlational research. The objective of this research was investigated whether or not there is significant correlation between students’ ability in listening to English song and their vocabulary mastery. The research was conducted at State Junior High School 14 Pekanbaru. There were 34 students as sample taken by using simple random sampling technique. The method used in this research was a quantitative method. In collecting the data, this researcher distributed test to the respondent to assess students’ ability in listening to English song and students’ vocabulary mastery. The researcher used Pearson product moment correlation coefficient through SPSS 16.00 to analyze the data. The result of this research shows that sig. (2-tailed) value is 0.002. It can be stated that 0.002<0.05. It means that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The value of correlation coefficient (r) is 0.502. In conclusion, there is a significant positive correlation between students’ ability in listening to English song and their vocabulary mastery.
