Abstract

English education department students, they have to know about grammar especially when they are speaking performance in front of class, it can make the other people more understand. In this research the researcher got some problems they are; some of the students still do not know about grammar, some of the students made some grammatical errors. The design of this research is a quantitative research. The specific objective of this research is to find out types of grammatical errors on students speaking performance. The population of this research is the students at the second semester of English education department of UIN SUSKA RIAU. The total population of this research is 171 students because the researcher uses purposive sampling the researcher selected 34 students as the sample of this research. In collecting data the researcher used a test to find out the students grammatical error on their speaking performance and the oral presentation as a test in this research. The researcher analyzed the data by using manual percentage. Based on the result, it was found that the students made 161 (42%) in omission errors, 55 (14%) in addition errors, 83 (21%) misordering errors, 88 (23%) misformation errors. The researcher could be concluded that the students mostly made some errors in omission because omission was the highest of the students made grammatical errors and addition is the lowest of the students made grammatical errors.
