Abstract

Hammer (1994) argues that Authentic Materials is a learning tool that has a positive effect on students to help them produce better language learning, faster and more confident by treating real-life situations. The purpose of this research is to know whether the use of authentic material affects the motivation and of the students' vocabulary mastery in language learning. This technique is aimed at English teachers in order to design better techniques in learning English. The sample used in this research is 40 students of class VI. 20 students VI.B is an experimental class and 20 students of VI.A as a control class. The method used in this research is quantitative with a design using Quasi-experimental research. In collecting the data, the writer used pre-test and post-test to know students’ vocabulary mastery and used questionnaire to know students’ motivation. Finally, to analyze data, the writer used T-Test. The results of the study indicate that there is a very significant influence on the motivation and students' vocabulary mastery in using authentic materials. sample t-test shows that the t-test results are: There is a significant difference between students’ learning motivation of pre-test average of experiment group score and students’ motivation post-test average score of experiment group of Primary School 6 Bengkalis. The explanation of T-test result is -8,079, df is 23, by comparing the amount of significance. If the probability is > 0.05, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. If probability < 0.05 the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Due to the significance of 0.000 <0.05, Ha is accepted while H0 is rejected with the percentage of 73.11%. There is a significant difference between the vocabulary mastery pre-test mean of the control group score and the post-test mastery vocabulary mean of the control group score at Primary School 6 Bengkalis District. The explanation of the result of the are t-test is -6.917, df is 19, by comparing the amount of significance. If the probability is > 0.05, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. If probability < 0.05 the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Because of the significance of 0.000 < 0.05, then Ha is accepted while H0 is rejected with a significant percentage of 72.66%. Based on the above conclusions, it is clear that the use of Authentic Materials has a good effect in increasing students' vocabulary mastery after being taught by using Authentic Materials Keyword: Authentic material, motivation, vocabulary mastery
