Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find out the differences on students’ writing ability between those taught by using collaborative writing strategy and those taught by using non - collaborative writing strategy at tenth grade of SMA Dharma Loka Pekanbaru, to find out the students’ writing ability taught by using collaborative writing strategy. to find out the students’ writing ability taught by using non - collaborative writing strategy. In this research, the research design was a comparative research. The population of this research was the tenth grade students at SMA Dharma Loka Pekanbaru in 2017/2018. It consisted of five classes; the number of population was 111 students. The sample of this research was 60 students taken from two class. They where X MIA 1 doing collaborative writing and X MIA 4 doing non – collaborative. The technique of collecting data used by researcher was writing test. The technique of analyze data was an independent t-test and it was calculated by using SPSS 23 program. Based on the data analysis, the researcher concluded that there is a significant difference between collaborative wrting strategy and non - collaborative wrting strategy of the tenth grade at SMA Dharma Loka Pekanbaru. It can be recognized that score of sig. (2tailed) was smaller than score of α (0.000 < 0.005). it mean that there is a significant difference between students’ writing ability in English taught by using collaborative writing strategy and by using non – collaborative writing strategy of tenth grade at SMA Dharma Loka Pekanbaru.
