Abstract

Based on the researcher’s preliminary observation, the students at Eighth Grade of Junior High School 1 Tembilahan got some of the phenomena in their independent learning. This research aimed at students’ independent learning in learning English at Eighth Grade of Junior High School 1 Tembilahan. This research was descriptive design. The population and sample of this research was the eighth grade students of Junior High School 1 Tembilahan. There were 338 samples which were selected by using total sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher distributed questionnaire, and the analyzed the data by using descriptive statistic using SPSS version 16. After analyzing the data, it was found that most of students have independent learning in naturalistic language learning with percentage 44.48%, independent learning in self interaction with percentage 28.27%, and independent learning in self directed naturalistic language learning with percentage 27.24%.
