Abstract

Based on the researcher’s preliminary research, it was found that some of the eighth grade students at State Junior High School 1 Kandis, Siak Regency have been taught about recount text but still get difficulties and make error in writing recount text. The researcher formulated the problems into one research questions, What the most grammatical errors committed by the students at the eighth grade of State Junior High School 1 Kandis, Siak Regency. Therefore, the objectives of this research were to find empirical evidence of students’ grammatical errors at the eighth grade of State Junior High School 1 Kandis, Siak Regency. This study was a descriptive research. The subject of this research was the eighth grade students of State Junior High School 1 Kandis, Siak Regency while the object of this research was the students’ grammatical errors in writing recount text. The researcher used purposive sampling technique to take the sample, there were 32 students as sample from 206 students. To collect the data, the researcher used test. The test was conducted to find out grammatical errors that students made in writing recount text. Based on data analysis, the researcher found that types of errors that students made in writing recount text. The total amounts of errors made by students were 376 errors. The percentage of students’ error omission in writing recount text was 27%, addition 15%, misordering 16%, and misformation 42%. And the most grammatical errors made by the students was misformation was 42%. Keywords: Error, Writing, Recount Text.
