Abstract

This research was conducted based on students’ problem in writing. Therefore, this research was aimed 1) to investigate students’ writing ability before being taught by using Dictation-Paraphrase Technique, 2) to investigate the students’ writing ability after being taught by using Dictation-Paraphrase Technique, 3) to investigate whether there was significant effect of using Dictation-Paraphrase Technique on students’ writing ability. This research had two variables, Dictation-Paraphrase Techniqueas an independent variable and students’writing ability as a dependent variable.This research was a preexperimental research.The researcher selected one class from the population by using cluster random sampling technique: experimental class. There were 29 students as sample out of 117 students. In collecting the data, the writerused writing test. In analyzing the data, the researcherused descriptive statistic and paired sample t-test formula calculatedby using SPSS 23 version continued by using eta square formula.The result of data analysis showed that there is a significant effect of using Dictation-Paraphrase Techniqueon students’ Writing Ability, in which the Sig (2-tailed) 0.000had less value than 0.05. Thus, Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Furthermore, there is a significant effect of using the Dictation-Paraphrase Techniqueon the students’ Writing Ability atState Senior High School 1 Tambang, in which the result of eta squared 0.82.
