Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out whether the students’ reading comprehension taught by using Start Simple Stories (SSS) Method had better score than those without being taught by using Start Simple Stories (SSS) Method and to find out whether there is any significant effect who are tauhgt and without being taught by using Simple Stories (SSS) Method at State Senior High School 1 Toapaya Bintan Regency. This research was an experimental research. The design was quasi experimental research.The writer formulated the problems that would be answered by using the quantitative research. The subject of the research was the eleventh grade students at State Senior High School 1 Toapaya Bintan Regency. The object of the research was Start Simple Stories (SSS) Method on reading comprehension. The writertook two classes as sample; IX 3 consisted of 28 students as experimental class, and IX IS 1 consisted of 28 students as control class. The data were collected by using multiple choice tests. The result of this research was; first,(Ho) was rejected and (Ha) is accepted (80.00>76.61)or students’ who participate in Start Simple Stories (SSS) Method class would have better score on reading comprehension than students who participate in conventional class. Second, (Ho) was accepted and (Ha) was rejected which showed 0.182> 0.05. In other words, there was not a significant effect of using Start Simple Stories (SSS) Method. From the result, it can be concluded that teaching reading by using Start Simple Stories (SSS) Method gave a small effect on reading comprehension of the students at State Senior High School 1 Toapaya Bintan Regency.
