Abstract
This research has only one of the problem that how is the ability of identifying pronouns in a text by the tenth grade students of Senior High School 2 Bangkinang. The objective of the research was to found out the students’ ability in identifying pronouns in a text at the tenth grade of Senior High School 2 Bangkinang Kota. The design of this research is descriptive research, which has one variable to observe. This research used quantitative data, where the students were assessed by their score. To determine the sample, this research used simple random sampling technique. The number of population was 388 students, it consisted 12 classes from X Mia 1 until X Iis 6. There were 52 students chosen as the samples of this research. The instrument of the research was test (multiple choices) consisted 40 questions. In collecting the data the research used written test and by duration 100 minutes. All of the short stories were taken from English text book and internet. The technique of analyzing data was quantitative analysis. Based on the result of the research, there were 9 students in Very Good category (17.31%), 15 students in Good Category (28.84%), 11 students Enough category (21.15%), 7 students in Less category (13.46%), and the last 10 students in Fail category (19.23%).in the other words, the students’ ability in identifying pronouns in a text at the tenth grade of Senior High School 2 Bangkinang Kota is in Good category.
