Abstract
Based on the preliminary research, it was found that the eleventh grade of senior high school 1 Bukit Batu got difficulties in speaking. It can be seen that some of the students were not able to express their ideas orally in speaking because the students got anxiety. The aim of the research was to find out the correlation between students’ anxiety and their speaking ability at the eleventh grade of senior high school 1 Bukit Batu. The design of this research was a correlational research design. The population of the research was the eleventh grade students of senior high school 1 Bukit Batu and the sample is 50% of social class. The number of sample was selected by using simple random sampling technique. To get the data, the researcher gave questionnaire and oral test, and then analyzed the data by using pearson product moment calculated by SPSS 23.0 program. After analyzing the data, the result of sig.t .001 was smaller than 0.05 (sig.≤ 0.05). It could be stated that Ha (alternative hypothesis) is accepted. In other words, there is a significant correlation between students’ anxiety and their speaking ability at Senior High School 1 Bukit Batu Key words : Correlation, Anxiety, and Speaking Ability.
