Abstract

ABSTRACT Vira nurmila (2022) : The Correlation Between Students’ Self Esteen and Their Speaking Skill at SMAN 1 KINALI This research aimed at examining the correlation between students’ self esteem and their speaking skill at the eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Kinali. This research is a correlational study that has two variables, variable X (students’ self esteem) and variable Y (students’ speaking skill). The techniques of collecting the data were questionnaire and test. The total population of this research is 120 students from four classes in XI science major. The researcher used simple random technique and the reseacher took 30 students as sample. Then, person product moment formula was used to analyze the two data gathered throgh SPSS 23.0. The data of students’ self esteem have obtained from questionnaire and the data of students’ speaking skill were gotten by oral test. Based on the data analysis result, it is revealed that self esteem has a posotive correlation with students’ speaking skill with a moderate level of correlation significance (0,493). Then, it is also found that 24.30% of students’ speaking skill was influenced by their self esteem, while the remaining 75.70% of the speaking skill were affected by other unknown factors.
