Abstract

ABSTRACT Febi Tri Anugrah (2021): The Correlation between Students’ Habit in Watching English Movie with English Subtitle and Their Speaking Skill at State Senior High School 5 Pekanbaru The purpose of this research is to examine whether there is any significant correlation between students’ habit in watching English movie with English subtitle and their speaking skill at State Senior High School 5 Pekanbaru. There were 35 students as samples by using simple random sampling technique. This research approach was quantitative method and the technique used in this research was a correlational technique. In collecting the data, the researcher distributed the questionnaire to the respondents to determine students’ habit in watching English movie with English subtitle, which consist of 20 items statements and used video and audio recording for speaking test to measure students’ speaking skill. The researcher used Spearman correlation through SPSS 25.0 to analyze the data. The result of this research show that sig.r obtained value is -0.127 and the level of significant (p= 0.467). it indicates that 0.467 is higher than 0.05. it means that null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted while alternative hypothesis (Ha) is rejected. The value of r obtained is - 0.127 < r table is 0.334. In conclusion, there is no correlation between students’ habit in watching English movie with English subtitle and their speaking skill Senior High School 5 Pekanbaru.
