Abstract

ABSTRACT Mhd. Andya Rivai (2019): The Portrait of Students Critical Thinking Disposition in Learning English at Islamic Senior High School PPYHM Pelalawan Regency. Students’ critical thinking disposition can be defined one of affective domain. In classroom activity, the teacher should to increase the students’ critical thinking disposition. Meanwhile, the goal of critical thinking is the students’ can increase the knowledge when they were learning in the class. Students’ critical thinking disposition consist of 7 aspects, that: inquisitive, analyticity, systematicity, maturity, self-confidence, open-minded and truth-seeking. The purpose of this research is to describe the portrait of students’ critical thinking disposition in learning English at the tenth and eleventh grade students of Islamic Senior High School PPYHM Pelalawan Regency. This research was descriptive quantitative. There were 58 students as samples chosen by using total sampling technique. In collecting the data, the researcher distributed the questionnaire to the respondents to determine the critical thinking disposition, which consisted of 45 item statements that was constructed based on the indicators of critical thinking disposition by Peter A. Facione. The researcher used descriptive statistic to analyze the data. The result of this research showed that the total score of students’ critical thinking disposition is 9712, with the mean score is 167.45. Moreover, the dominant aspect of students’ critical thinking is 1672, with the mean score is 4.12. As the conclusion, it can be identification that category of students’ critical thinking disposition at Islamic Senior High School PPYHM Pelalawan Regency was strong disposition. Furthermore, the dominant aspects of students’ critical thinking disposition were maturity and analyticity. Key word: Critical thinking disposition, Learning English.
