Abstract

This research was conducted based on the importance in considering assessment in teaching and learning English. The Purpose of this research was to find out the students’ perception on the English teacher’s assessment at SMPN 1 Tualang. The design of this research was survey. Sample of the research was 49 students at the grade seven Students of SMPN 1 Tualang. Instrument that was used was questionnaire. The questionnaire was about the students’ perspective toward the English teacher’s assessment. The questionnaire was analyzed by using percentage formulation. The result of analyzing data in terms of preference making up 55.10%; students would prefer to be marked on test in form of “multiple choice”. In terms of showing students’ ability change 36.72%; students felt “cooperation in group work” was good for them, pertaining to fairness change 34.70%; students thought that “completing class assignment” was fair for them and the last of improving students’ ability change 46.95%; students perceive “Cooperation in group work” helps them to improve their English. In conclusion, the students’ perspective at the grade seven of SMPN 1 Tualang on the English teacher’s assessment was fair. Keywords: Perspective and Assessment
