Abstract
This research is entitled “The correlation between word classes mastery and writing descriptive paragraphs at the second years’ students of SMP N4 Tambang”. The research had 3 formulations of the problems; How is students word classes comprehension, how is students writing descriptive paragraphs ability, and whether there is or no significant correlation between word classes comprehension and writing descriptive paragraphs ability at the second years’ students of SMP N4 Tambang. The objectives of the research ware to find out the students’ word classes comprehension, to find out students’ writing descriptive paragraph and to find out the correlation between word classes comprehension and writing descriptive paragraphs ability at the second years’ students of SMP N4 Tambang. In this research, the research design was a correlational research. The population of this research was the second years’ students of SMPN4 Tambang in 2016/2017 academic year. It consisted of eleven classes; the number of population was 326 students. The sample of this research was 52 students taken from two classes (26 students in each class). They were VII J and VII K two tests (multiple choice for word classes and filling the blank for writing descriptive paragraph). The technique of analyzing data was Pearson Product Moment and it was eased by using SPSS 24 program. Based on the data analysis, the writer concluded that there is a correlation between word classes comprehension and writing descriptive paragraphs ability at the second years’ students of SMP N4 Tambang. It was considered from Sig. (2- tailed) =0.00 that was lower than α (0.05). It means that Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. From the research findings, it showed that there was a correlation between word classes comprehension and writing descriptive paragraphs ability at the second years’ students of SMP N4 Tambang.
