Abstract
Senior High School 1 Bangkinang, Kampar Regency is one of the schools that used School Based Curriculum as a guidance in teaching and learning process. After doing preliminary observation, some of the students of the second year still had low ability in their listening. The researcher interpreted that they had low ability in listening comprehension, it was indicated that they had difficulties distinguishing similar sound, not able to comprehend the content of listening text, not able to identify what the speaker means, not able to identify speci fic information of listening text, and cannot catch the keyword from the listening comprehension . Thus, the researcher was interested in conducting the research entitled “The Effect of Using Keyword Strategy toward Listening Comprehension of the Second Year Students at State Senior High School 1 Bangkinang Kampar Regency”. The type of the research was quasi-experimental research which the researcher could not create a new participant groups for this experiment . The main focus of this research was to find out a significant effect of using Keyword Strategy toward Listening Comprehension of the Second Year Students at State Senior High School 1 Bangkinang Kampar Regency. The subject of this research was the second year students of SMAN 1 Bangkinang Kampar Regency. In this research, the researcher took two classes; experimental and control class from the four classes of social. There were 52 students as the sample. In collecting the data, the researcher used test. The test used was listening test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used independent sample T-Test operated by SPSS 16. Finally, the research found that Ha was accepted and H 0 was rejected. Besides, it could be proved from the mean score of students’ listening comprehension of post test that at experimental was higher (62, 50) than at control class (53, 54). Furthermore, the category of students’ improvement in listening comprehension at the experimental class was middle, while in control class was low. In conclusion, there was a significance effect of using Keyword strategy toward listening comprehension of the second year students at SMAN 1 Bangkinang Kampar Regency.
