Abstract

The research is caused by the lack of students' ability in understanding the descriptive text in English such as most of the students are not able to find main idea, the meaning of the words, answering the questions and the difficultis meaning of the words in the text. The purpose of this research is to investigate the application of cooperative script method to improve students' ability in understanding descriptive text in English at grade V of Nur Ikhlas MI Tualang Siak Sri Indrapura. The method of this research is action research that consists of two cycles. Data collection technique in this research uses observation and test. Observation is used to determine the activity of the teacher during learning process by using cooperative script. While the test is used to determine the student's ability in understanding the descriptive text in English. The result of this research indicates that the application of cooperative script method implies: the first, the learning process becomes fun so that this condition increases students’ motivation in learning, the second, it trains students’ auditory and careful in understanding the descriptive text in English, the third, it trains students to explain the descriptive text in English is being learned, the fourth, it trains students to disclose mistakes of others with verbal and courteous and fifth, it trains teacher to make corrections thoroughly and not just to make corrections to some students only. From the results above, it can be concluded that cooperative script method can improve students' ability in understanding the descriptive text in English at grade V of MI Nur Ikhlas Tualang Siak Sri Indrapura
