Abstract

This research is a class action (Class Action Research). Based on observations in class VII MTs N Pelintung Dumai encountered some symptoms or phenomena in the learning process, especially on the subjects of English, which indicates low ability students in understanding the content of the discourse, only a fraction of the number of students who are able to mention the idea of principal and explanatory discourse, difficulty students find important sentences in a discourse, it is seen when given the task of daily tests, most students are difficult to answer and the difficulty of the students concluded the contents of a discourse, it is seen when asked to sum up the content of a discourse only 9 people or (31%) were able to conclude that while the content of a discourse can not infer the contents of a discourse or as many as 20 people (69%). The formulation in this study were Upgrades How Understanding Reading with Strategies Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) Seventh Grade Students of MTs N Pelintung Dumai?. In order to study this class action work well without the barriers that interfere with the smoothness of the study, researchers compiled through stages in action research, namely: 1) planning / preparatory action, 2) Implementation of the action, 3) Observation and Reflection. Based on these results, it can be seen that the results of tests reading comprehension skills of students of class VII in before the action obtained an average percentage of 65.0, with a low category. Later in the cycle I gained 71.0% percentage points, this figure is the category of being. While on the second cycle percentages obtained 80.0%, this figure is in the good category. Based on these data we can conclude that through the implementation of strategies Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) can improve reading comprehension in grade VII MTsN Pelintung Dumai.
