Abstract

This research is motivated by the low of students’ ability in understanding English recount text. The writer has found some symptoms there are: when the teacher gives some question to the students about English recount text, more students cannot answer it well, the students have not enough good comprehension about English recount text, only few of them could describe English recount text in front of class, it is evident from few students who could answer the question from the teacher. The formulation of this research is whether the implementation of discussion method improves students’ ability in understanding English recount text. In order that this research runs well, the writer has arranged some steps, they are: 1) the planning, 2) the implementation, 3) observation, and 4) reflection. The success of the implementation of discussion method is known form the improving of students’ ability understanding English recount text before an action, on the first cycle and second cycle. An average scores of students’ ability in speaking ability before an action is 56,5% with “weak” category, and some scores range 55%- 69%. This percentage increases in the first cycle it is 67,0% and is categorized “middle” and some scores range 70%-79%. And this number still increases on the second cycle it is 80,7% and is categorized “able” and some scores range 80%-100%. Therefore, the writer conclude that the the implementation of discussion method could improve students’ ability understanding English recount text at the eighth2 year of public Islamic junior high school Kuok..
