Abstract

This study investigates students’ perceptions of lecturers’ teaching methods in the Department of English Education at the State Islamic University of Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. The purpose of this research is to explore students’ views regarding the teaching methods employed by lecturers. The study adopted a qualitative approach using a descriptive design. The participants were English Education students enrolled in the ELT Media Design course, selected through purposive sampling. The data were collected using questionnaires and interviews. The findings from the questionnaires and interviews reveal that the lecturers used a single method in teaching ELT Media Design, namely Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL). The results indicate that students generally favor this method, as it facilitates their understanding of the material. Out of 80 responses provided by participants, 19 expressed their agreements from informant MR, 6 expressed strong agreements from informant S, and 8 expressed disagreements from informants H, S, Y, and MR. However, some students reported difficulties in generating ideas for developing instructional media. Keywords: students’ perception, teaching method, Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL)
