Abstract

ABSTRACT Elsa Oktarina (2025) : An Analysis of Students’ Critical Thinking Skills in Critical Reading Course at English Education Study Program, State Islamic University of Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau. This research aimed at analyzing student critical thinking skills at English Education Study Program, State Islamic University of Sultan Syarif Kasim Riau, in Critical Reading course. The research design used was quantitative descriptive. The population consisted of 129 fourth-semester students in the Academic Year of 2024/2025, the samples were determined with purposive sampling technique, and the samples were students who had completed the course. The research instrument was critical thinking skills multiple-choice test adapted from Facione (2011) framework, covering interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, and explanation. The research findings showed that 48% students (62 students) were in low category with the score range of 0–44; 19% students (24 students) were in moderate category with the score range of 45–68; and 33% students (43 people) were in high category with the score range of 69–100. This finding indicated that student critical thinking skills were generally still in low to moderate category.
