Abstract

This research aims to examine the perceptions of twelfth-grade students at Islamic Senior High school 2 Pekanbaru regarding oral corrective feedback (OCF) provided by teachers on pronunciation. The primary focus of this study is to understand how students interpret, respond to, and perceive the impact of OCF on their pronunciation learning. A quantitative descriptive research method was employed, with data collected through a questionnaire consisting of 20 items measuring students' perceptions across five indicators: Students’ Perception on the Importance of English, Students’ Perception on the Way Teacher Deliver OCF, Students’ Perception on the Timing of OCF, Students’ Perception on the Effect of OCF, and Students’ Perception on the Way Teacher Provide OCF. The research sample was selected using convenience sampling, involving 62 twelfth-grade students from classes XII 2 and XII 3. The overall findings indicate that students hold a very positive perception of teachers' OCF on pronunciation. They perceive OCF as motivating, objective, clear, and highly beneficial in improving their speaking ability and pronunciation, facilitating self-correction, and addressing language transfer issues. These findings affirm that students generally do not feel embarrassed, nervous, or have their self-esteem hurt when receiving OCF. Nevertheless, there were varying preferences regarding the timing of OCF, with most students preferring feedback to be given after they finish speaking rather than being interrupted.
