Abstract

This research investigates English teachers’ perceptions of the implementation of the Independent Curriculum at MTs Muhammadiyah 02 Pekanbaru. Using a qualitative descriptive method and evaluation research design, data were collected through interviews and questionnaires involving English teachers as key participants. The study reveals that teachers generally perceive the Independent Curriculum positively, noting its flexibility and potential to restore meaningful English language learning. However, findings also highlight several challenges, including limited understanding of the curriculum structure, lack of training, inadequate digital skills, and technological infrastructure issues, particularly among senior teachers and in remote areas. Despite these barriers, the curriculum is seen as a step forward in promoting more inclusive, creative, and student-driven learning. Teachers acknowledge that its implementation requires more preparation time and adaptation, especially in designing lesson plans and learning assessments. Overall, while the Independent Curriculum offers a promising framework for improving educational outcomes, it demands ongoing support, resources, and professional development for effective implementation
