Abstract

Anisa Intania (2025): The Impact of Watching Video with Subtitle in Learning English on Students’ Vocabulary Mastery at SMAN 1 Kampar Vocabulary mastery plays a crucial role in the development of English language skills. However, improving vocabulary remains a challenge in the learning process. One effective strategy to support vocabulary acquisition is the use of video media with subtitles. This study aims to investigate the effect of watching subtitled videos on students’ vocabulary mastery at SMAN 1 Kampar. This research employed a quantitative approach with a quasiexperimental design involving two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The sample consisted of 60 students, with 30 students in each group, selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using multiple-choice tests administered twice (pretest and post-test), which covered content words such as nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs, as well as aspects of spelling, synonyms, antonyms, definitions, and grammatical functions. The data were analyzed using an independent sample t-test through SPSS version 25, which showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Therefore, the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted. In conclusion, watching videos with subtitles has a positive and significant effect on improving students’ vocabulary mastery
