Abstract

This research was aimed to find out whether there was a significant effect of using Annotating Strategy on Reading Comprehension in Recount Text at First Grade Students of SMK IT Al Izhar Pekanbaru. This is pre-experimental research conducted by using a pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The instrument used in this research test (pre-test and post-test) contained reading comprehension activities in recount text. The population of this research was the First Grade Students of SMK IT Al Izhar Pekanbaru. The sample of the research was X Perbankan Syariah 1 class which contains 25 students. The needed data were collected by giving multiple choice tests about reading recount text (pre-test and post-test) to the students. The collected data were analyzed by using the t-test formula. The results of data analysis showed that the mean score of the pre-test was 48.52, the mean score of post-test was 65.24. Besides that, the value of sig. 2 tailed of the T Test was .000, which is lower than 0,005. It can be concluded that there was a significant effect of using annotating strategy on reading comprehension in recount text at first-grade students of SMK IT Al Izhar Pekanbaru . In other words, the alternative hypothesis of this research was accepted. Thus, the use of annotating strategy can be used in teaching reading recount texts.
