Abstract
ABSTRACT Vivi Ariska Sari, (2024): The Librarian Strategies in Increasing Student Reading Interest at State Elementary School 147 Pekanbaru This research aimed at finding out the librarian strategies in increasing student reading interest, the supporting and obstructing factors of the librarian strategies in increasing student reading interest at State Elementary School 147 Pekanbaru. Qualitative descriptive method was used in this research. The main informant of this research was the head of the library, while the supporting informants were the headmaster, students, and teachers at State Elementary School 147 Pekanbaru. Interview, observation, and documentation were the techniques of collecting data. Then, the data were analyzed by using reduction, display, and conclusions/verification. The research findings showed that the strategies used by the head of library in increasing student reading interest at State Elementary School 147 Pekanbaru were motivating, promoting, cooperating, facilities and infrastructure, and servicing strategies. The supporting factors in implementing librarian strategies in increasing student reading interest were 1) adequate librarians, 2) library space that was easily accessible and very cool room, 3) librarians having extensive knowledge, 4) librarians developing planning to add new books for their collections gradually, 5) most of the available facilities already supporting the service process, 6) the strategic location of the library. While the obstructing factors were 1) teachers who still rarely visited the library, teachers who should be diligent in visiting the library to add learning materials and to provide examples to students, 2) some facilities that were already damaged, 3) the lack of interesting and relevant books collections for student interests that could be a major obstacle, 4) the lack of librarian skills in implementing effective and attractive promotional strategies for students, 5) inadequate or uncomfortable library facilities, so it could reduce student interest in visiting the library, and 6) the lack of appreciation or motivation.
