Abstract

The study aims to analyze what visual images and verbal text combine each other to expose visual meanings in a junior high school English textbook for seventh graders. The book of English for Nusantara Class 7 2022 revision textbook, published by Kementrian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan Republik Indonesia, contains the study's data in Chapters 1 through 5. Using documentation method in qualitative research to collect, analyze and interpret data obtained through various documents or written sources. Finally, it is implied how texts and images relate to one another. The results demonstrated that visual meanings are revealed when verbal text and visual images work together. Because they are a part of the overall meaning, the images also aid in scaffolding learning. Thus, the researcher deduced that the pictures are helping students comprehend the tasks in the textbook. The first step in the data analysis process is to identify the images that appear in each chapter. Next, the verbal text that goes with the images is categorized in Chapter 1 through Chapter 5, which is then broken down into constituent tasks. In conclusion is that all of the images in this book English for Nusantara have been satisfied indicators representational mode, interactive mode, and compositional mode by Cress and van Leeuwen
