Abstract

This research aims to describe how students' test anxiety during formative assessment at Aek Hayuara Sibuhuan Islamic boarding school and to explore the factors that influence students' test anxiety during formative assessment. This research used a qualitative research approach with a case study research design. The participants for this research were students who took part in formative assessment and used purposive sampling as the participant selection approach. In collecting data, the researcher used closed-ended questionnaires and interviews. The findings show that the majority of the students felt anxious during the formative assessment divided into two aspects, namely emotionality and worry. Then, there are four factors that cause students' test anxiety during formative assessment from both emotionality and worry aspects. The factors include fear of failing the course, psychological distress, poor study skills, and low self-esteem. In conclusion, most of the students felt tets Anxiety during formative assessment in varying factors. It is recommended for teachers and students to identify and find out the solutions for students who have anxiety during formative assessment, and for further researchers to conduct more intensive research related to student anxiety during formative assessment.
