Abstract

This study aims to find out the various assessments implemented by teachers and the application of authentic assessments at SMAN 15 Pekanbaru. This study uses qualitative research with a descriptive approach. The participants of the study were English teachers who taught in grade 12 and the research sample was conducted using purposive sampling. Data were collected from observations, interviews and documentation. The researcher found that the teacher used kinds assessments which is performance assessment and project assessment in assessing speaking and the teacher implemented authentic assessment is based on what teachers apply according to the characteristics of authentic assessment and some related literature. In conclusion, the teacher used various assessment in assessing speaking and the application of authentic assessment in speaking ability at SMAN 15 Pekanbaru is in accordance with the process and characteristics.
