Abstract

ABSTRACT Ika Fitriani (2024): Exploring Students’ Difficulties In Speaking English; A Case study At The Privat Vocational School In Pekanbaru Based on preliminary observations, students have several problems in terms of speaking English, and this is a difficulty for students in speaking English. The factors of students’ difficulties in this problem are, most of them are not confident when speaking English because they are afraid of making mistakes in pronouncing vocabulary in English, feeling anxious or embarrassed, and then because they are not interested in learning English. The purpose of the research is to explore and find out about the difficulties faced by the students in speaking English. This research used qualitative research, and case study as the design of the research. This research was held on May 2024 at SMK Multi Mekanik Masmur Pekanbaru. The sample of this research are students of X TKJ at SMK Multi Mekanik Masmur Pekanbaru. In addition, observation, questionnaires, and interviews were used to gather the data. The findings revealed that the data from the questionnaire, students tended to be strongly agree about the difficulties of speaking English. However, from the interview results, there is a deeper reason that students feel the difficulty of speaking English with various factors. It can be concluded that students feel strongly agree towards difficulties in speaking English, but the students also have certain reasons or more specifically, it is evident that students have difficulties in speaking English.
