Abstract

SITI HASIAH HASIBUAN (2024) : THE CALLIGRAPHY VISUALIZATION OF AL-QUR’AN VERSES AND RIAU MALAY OF ORNAMENTS AT THE MOSQUE OF PARIPURNA AGUNG AR-RAHMAN, PEKANBARU CITY which discusses the visualization of calligraphy of Al-Qur‟an verses and Riau Malay ornaments, aesthetic values of Malay culture in Riau Malay calligraphy and ornaments at the Plenary Mosque of Agung Ar-Rahman Pekanbaru City. The art of Al-Qur'an calligraphy is a great form of Islamic cultural art which has distinctive characteristics in the historical record of the development of Islamic culture from time to time. Calligraphy and ornaments are one of the results of ethnic tribal cultural processes that still survive today and have a close relationship with their supporting traditions. This research is included in the field research category using mixed methods with ethnographic and sociological approaches. The data collection techniques used are observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this research show that in visualizing the calligraphy of Al-Qur‟an verses at the Ar-Rahman mosque, two types of khat are used, such as kufiq in calligraphy QS. Al-Baqarah: 255 in the mihrab discusses "the majesty and power of Allah", and tsuluts in the calligraphy of fragment of verses QS. At-Taubah: 18 about the mihrab duscusses "people who have the right to prosper the mosque", and the calligraphy QS. Al-'Alaq: 1-7 on the ceiling discusses "the importance of reading as a scientific basis for humans". The Riau Malay ornaments that are visualized include 810 fern shoots on the interior and exterior of the mosque and there are 1,042 bamboo shooots and selembayung on the exterior of the mosque. These two ornements reflect a rich picture of the characterof the Riau Malay people. The aesthetic and cultural values in the form of aesthetic values, cultural values, religious values and extrinsic values in the form of personal values. The purpose and function of calligraphy is as aesthetics, axplanation of monotheism, cultural heritage, as a livelihood, as a method of treatment.
