Abstract

This study aimed to seek the correlation between creative thinking and writing skill, and investigate the influence of creative thinking on writing skill on Second Grade at Mts Muhammadiyah 02 Pekanbaru.Technique of Data Analysis used quantitative analysis. The population of this research on Second Grade at Mts Muhammadiyah 02 Pekanbaru academic year 2022/2023. The students were divided into 4 classes, in which 128 students population. The sample of this research was 32 students that were chosen by random sampling. To achieve the goals of this study, the critical thinking test by The Association of American Colleges and Universities (AACU) and Treffinger et al (2002) was administered to measure students’ creative thinking. Then, the researcher asked the participants to write on a given topic and their writing were rated by two raters by following rules of scoring in writing assessment rubric. By using product moment correlation inferential analysis through SPSS 23.0 in analyzing the data, the researcher found that the sig. t is 0.001, smaller than the significant alpha of 0.05 (sig.t < 0.05). It means that Ha was accepted, or there is a significant correlation between the students’ creative thinking and their writing skill. The writer also found that 53.29% Writing skill on Second Grade at Mts Muhammadiyah 02 Pekanbaru was influenced by critical thinking. Then, the other 46.71% was influenced by other factors.
