Abstract

ABSTRACT Yuslia Safitri, (2023); The Effect of Using Mind Mapping Strategy on Students’ Ability in Writing Procedure Text at MA Darul Hikmah Writing is one of the important skills to be taught to students. The ability to write must be learned consciously by students and it is expected that students can write well. The objective of the research was to find out the significant difference in writing procedure text between students taught with and without the use of mind mapping strategy at MA Darul Hikmah. This research was categorized into quasi experimental research. The population of the research was the eleventh-grade students of MA Darul Hikmah academic year 2023/2024. This study divided the groups into experimental and control classes, the pre-test was given to both groups and the mind mapping strategy was only given to the experimental group. The last, post-test was given to assess the difference between the groups (experimental group and control group). This research was conducted from June to September 2023 at MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru. There were 42 students as samples chosen by using total sampling. They were distributed into two groups namely Class XI Religi 1 as the experimental group and Class XI Religi 2 as the control group. The data were obtained by using pretest that was given to both groups before the treatment and post-test was given after the treatment. The pre-test data and post-test data of both groups were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. For the data analysis, the researcher employed independent sample t test through SPSS and eta squared formula. The research results show that there is significant difference in writing procedure text between students who were taught with and without using mind mapping strategy. The significance value counted was 0.006 smaller than 0.05 (sig value = 0,006 < 0,05). Therefore, Ho rejected and Ha accepted. In other words, there is significant difference in writing procedure text between students who were taught with and without mind map strategy at MA Darul Hikmah Pekanbaru.
