Abstract

ABSTRACT Andi Abdurrahman, (2023): Teachers’ Perspective of Web-Based Gamification in EFL Classroom at Ulil Albab Schools Batam Based on the preliminary research, it was found that the hesitation among teachers regarding the use of web-based gamification in EFL classrooms due to difficulties encountered.. The aim of the research was to explore the teachers’ perspective and difficulties encountered. The design of this research is a case study research design with the population of the research was the six teachers from 3 schools of SDIT, SMPIT, and SMAIT in Ulil Albab Foundation Batam. As a case study, this research gathered data from various sources, and the findings apply only to the cases examined. To address the research inquiries of this investigation, the researcher employed two forms of qualitative research, namely interview and document analysis, to gather information from the study participants. the perspective of English teachers about web-based gamification is very beneficial in EFL classes, but teachers emphasize the importance of preparation with students' abilities. Proper preparation ensures the smooth implementation of gamification. The difficulty encountered is coming up with gamification materials and questions where the amount of time is required. Webbased gamification enhances student engagement and enthusiasm, with game elements displaying scores and rankings. However, teachers worry about potential negative effects, such as students focusing on points rather than understanding the lesson. Teachers face difficulties in limited time due to the preparation, and the lack of reliability of web-based gamification over students’ understanding.
