Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the role of fathers and mothers in providing support during the online learning process as well as the obstacles that have been experienced. This research has used a mixed method approach, a combination of quantitative and qualitative. This research was conducted in one of the madrasas of a foundation in Pekanbaru City, Riau. The study population consisted of all parents who had children in the madrasa. The sample has been drawn using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection techniques that have been used are closed questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The research data has been analyzed using quantitative descriptive methods and qualitative descriptive methods. The results of this study have shown that the role of the father is more prominent on the Informational support indicator and the mother is more prominent on the Companionship support indicator. Meanwhile, both of them experienced problems in providing Emotional or esteem support and Tangible or instrumental support. The constraints of parents in providing support are due to busy work, the assumption that children can learn on their own, economic limitations, limitations in understanding children's subject matter, and a conservative view of gender roles. The implications of the research are to increase awareness about the importance of fair and thoughtful support from parents, especially Informational support from mothers and Companionship support from fathers, as well as minimizing obstacles in dealing with methods, media and understanding subject matter with the madrasa
