Abstract

ABSTRACT Resa Oktama Saputri (2023): The Relationship between Students’ Grammatical Mastery and Their Reading Comprehension at the Eleventh Grade of SMAN 1 Koto Gasib The purpose of this research was to know the relationship between students’ grammatical mastery and their reading comprehension at the eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Koto Gasib. This research was a correlational research using a quantitative method with two variables. The sample of this research was taken by using purposive sampling method. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students of SMAN 1 Koto Gasib. It consisted of five classes with the total population was 136. The sample of this research was 34 students taken from 2 classes, they were XI IPA 1 and XI IPA 2. The researcher took 17 students in each class. The data of the research were collected by using test. The researcher distributed the test of grammar and reading comprehension that consist of 25 items in each of test. The technique of analyzing data was Pearson Product Moment. The result of this research showed that the sig.r obtained value was 0.000 lower than alpha value 0.05 which indicates that there was a significant relationship between students’ grammatical mastery and their reading comprehension. The value of r obtained was 0.845 > r table 0.339. In conclusion, there was a significant, positive, and very high relationship between students’ grammatical mastery and their reading comprehension at the eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Koto Gasib.
