Abstract
ABSTRACT Saskhia Rahma Mouli Friani, (2022): “The Effect of Think, Predict, Read, Connect (TPRC) Strategy and Reading Motivation on Students Reading Comprehension of Descriptive Text at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru” The main focus of this research is to investigate whether there was a significant effect of using effect of using Think, Predict, Read, Connect (TPRC) Strategy and reading motivation on students reading comprehension of descriptive text at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru. The researcher formulated the problems into four research questions that would be answered by using quantitative research, that is: 1) Is there any significant difference of reading comprehension between the students who are taught by using TPRC and without using TPRC? 2) Is there any significant difference of reading comprehension between high motivated students who are taught by using TPRC and without using TPRC? 3) Is there any significant difference of reading comprehension between middle motivated students who are taught by using TPRC and without using TPRC? 4) Is there any interaction effect of using TPRC, reading motivation, and reading comprehension? This research had three variables, Think, Predict, Read, Connect (TPRC) Strategy as an independent variable, reading motivation as independent variable, and reading comprehension as dependent variable. This research was factorial design research. The researcher selected two classes from total nine classes by using cluster random sampling technique: experimental and control. There were 64 students as sample out of 307 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used multiple choice. In analyzing the data, the researcher used independent sample t-test formula calcualted by suing SPSS and Anova two ways. Based on analysis of t-test formula, the sig. Value is 0.003. It could be stated that 0.003<0.05 small than 0.05. Hypoythesis alternative was accepted. There is a significant effect by using Think, Predict, Read, Connect (TPRC) Strategy on students’ reading comprehension of descriptive text at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru. Key words: Think, Predict, Read, Connect, Reading Motivation, Reading Comprehension, Descriptive Text
