Abstract

ABSTRACT Yussi Mutia Puspitasari, (2022): “English Teaching and Learning Activities of Tahfidz Students: Case Study of English Young Learners at an Islamic School in Pekanbaru” The objective of this study was to find out (1) the teachers’ activities in the teaching and learning process (2) the students’ activities in English learning process (3) the interaction between teacher and students in English learning process and (4) the interaction among students in English learning process. This study was conducted under the qualitative case study design. This study took the data at an Islamic School in Pekanbaru. The populations of this research were 1 English teacher and two students as the participants of this study. The data were collected from the observation, interview and document. The findings of the study showed that (1) The teacher's activities in teaching and learning process include three stages of the learning process, namely pre-activity which includes apperception activities, while-activity which contains activities explaining the main material of the lesson, and post-activity which includes activities summarizing and reviewing lessons. (2) The students' activities are quite diverse, namely individual, group and classical student activities. (3) The interaction that occurs between students and teachers shows that there are three patterns, namely, one-way interaction in which the teacher is the giver and the student is the recipient, two-way interaction, in which students and teachers both give feedback to each other, and multi-directional interaction which contains the interaction as a whole without any limitations. (4) The interaction that occurs between students is direct interaction that is verbal in nature which occurs several times during discussion activities in class regarding the discussion of lessons. Keywords: Teaching and Learning Activities, Tahfidz Students, Young Learners.
