Abstract

ABSTRACT Hasnah Usman (2022): A Comparative Study between Multiple Choice and Cloze Test toward Students’ Reading Comprehension Achievement at the Second Grade Students MAN 3 Pekanbaru The aim of this research was to find out the differences between multiple choice and cloze tests toward students’ reading comprehension achievement in the second grade at MAN 3 Pekanbaru. This research was quantitative research with a comparative causal method. This research was done from November 2021 to January 2022. The population of this research was students on XI MIA 3 and MIA 4 at MAN 3 Pekanbaru, with a total of 40 students. The researcher used a purposive sampling technique in collecting the sample. In collecting the data, the researcher gave multiple choice and cloze tests. The researcher used SPSS Program 23.0 for analyzing the data. The result of this research showed that the students who answered by using a cloze test got 76, 50, whereas the students who answered by using multiple choice got 67, 75. The result of this research showed that there was a significant difference in students’ reading comprehension achievement on multiple choice and cloze tests in reading comprehension at MAN 3 Pekanbaru. It was proved that the significance value sig. (2-tailed) was 0,000. That is, the sig. value (2-tailed) < 0, 05. Then, according to one sample t-test, it can be concluded that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. It means that the best test to increase students’ reading comprehension achievement in XI class at MAN 3 Pekanbaru was multiple choice tests.
