Abstract
ABSTRACT Sitti Hafshah Irsyam, (2022): Ethnoscience Study of Coconut Plantation Management as Natural Science Learning Resources (A Case Study in Pulau Palas Village, Indragiri Hilir Regency, Riau) This research aimed at describing local wisdom of the society in Pulau Palas Village, Tembilahan Hulu District, Indragiri Hilir Regency about coconut plantation management, analyzing science concept contained in the local wisdom, and analyzing the appropriateness of coconut plantation as Natural Science learning resources. It was qualitative research with a case study research design. Observation, interview, and questionnaire were the techniques of collecting data. The data obtained were analyzed by using Miles and Huberman qualitative analysis. The research findings showed that coconut plantation management was started from clearing land, it was necessary to make trenches; selecting seeds using round fruit; planting that required 5-8 meters distance; fertilizing by using salt, weeds, and MSG; land maintenance was carried out by weeding and pest control; and harvesting with coconut drift using trenches and sluice gate assistance. The Natural Science concept contained in the coconut plantation management included the structure and function of plant tissue, pressure, tides, and inheritance of traits. Coconut plantation management was very appropriate to be used as Natural Science learning resources with mean percentage 86.75% in terms of ease of access, security, time efficiency, and cost.
