Abstract

ABSTRACT This thesis is entitled “Anticipating Defamation in Social Media from the Hadith Perspective (Study of Ma'anil Hadith).” Defamation on social media is a phenomenon that is quite disturbing in society. Because this behavior can attack anyone, whetheragainst individuals, groups, religions, people who have died, and officials. Departing from the increasing number of deviant behavior, it seems necessary to conduct a study in the form of hadith which is an anticipation of the problem. The problem is formulated as to how significant the defamation is on social media, and how to contextualize the hadith as an anticipation of defamation on social media. This research method is qualitative and the type of this research is library research. The data taken in this study were sourced from the books of Sunan at-Tirmidhi, Tuhfatul Ahwadzi, and the formulation of criminal acts of defamation through social media which were analyzed with the study of ma'anil hadith. From the results of this study, it is known that the hadith used to anticipate defamation on social media is authentic in terms of quality of sanad and matan, and has gharib status in terms of quantity. As for the contextualization of hadith as an anticipation of defamation on social media, a person whose faith is perfect will not damage someone's honor and reputation through oral, written, or any media means.
