Abstract

Oil palm is one of the leading commodities for the Riau Province. The use of top soil is still the main choice as an oil palm nursery. To optimize the growth of oil palm seedlings and to reduce the use of top soil, one of them by combining top soil planting media with other media, such as cocopeat, solid and chicken egg shells. This study aims to determine the best combination of planting media and able to reduce the use of top soil in oil palm nurseries in the prenursery stage. This research has been carried out in the Mayang Asri residential area, Garuda Sakti Street, Tapung District, Kampar Regency in March 2021 to June 2021, using a completely randomized design (CRD) with one factor treatment, namely 4 combinations of planting media (top soil; top soil + cocopeat; top soil + solid; and top soil + 50 g chicken egg shells) with 5 replications. Parameters observed were plant height, number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width and stem diameter. The results showed that various combinations of different planting media had an effect on plant height, leaf length and stem diameter. The conclusion of this study is that top soil + cocopeat planting media and top soil + solid planting media are the best results.
