Abstract

Fitria Zaharah (2021): Concept of Second Language Acquisition based on Rod Ellis’ Perspective This content analysis study was carried out to explain the concept of Second Language Acquisition based on Rod Ellis and to describe the concept of classroom interaction based on Rod Ellis’ perspective. Furthermore, it was particularly intended to answer two research questions: 1) How is the concept of second language acquisition based on Rod Ellis? 2) How is the concept of classroom interaction based on Rod Ellis’ perspective? The primary data in this research were the book of Rod Ellis related to Second Language acquisition and interaction topic. The data were later analysed using content analysis technique by sorting related topic about second language acquisition and classroom interaction concept based on Rod Ellis perspective. The result of this study found that the second language acquisition is the process of acquiring the new language after the first language that focused on the way how the language learners learn or acquire the language after possessing the first language and the factors that affect the language learners in acquiring the new language. The process of second language acquisition were influenced by three factors; external factor, internal factors and psychological factors. The research finding also showed that interaction is the crucial activity happened in the classroom. Based on Ellis (1999) the interaction in the classroom can be in form of turn-taking, negotiating meaning, topic control, questioning behaviour and exchange structure. The interaction can be divided into two types interpersonal interaction and intrapersonal interaction. The findings of this study provide the insights and recommendations for related authorities as well as establishing chances for the further research on investigating the concept of second language acquisition and classroom interaction to build effective language classroom.
